Orphan Care

God’s Word Is Our Exclusive Foundation

We desire to hold God’s Word, the Bible, as the sole authoritative foundation of this ministry. We will focus this ministry on the biblical mandate that pertains to caring for orphans and assisting and supporting those who do so. As James 1:27a says “Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress” and in Isaiah 1:17b and Psalms 82:3 it says “Defend the cause of the weak and fatherless”. We recognize that God calls us to support and affirm one another in love (John 15:17), and to carry each other’s burdens.
(Galatians 6:2)

Worship Is Our Passionate Life Priority

We desire worship to be our passionate life priority – to give God the glory He demands and deserves. Scripture expresses the worship of God by His people both as a way of life and as a planned corporate experience. We see our lives as a “living sacrifices” which we present to God as acts of worship. (Romans 12:1) We wish to come alongside fellow church members and provide support to those who are providing for the needs of orphans.

Discipleship Is Our Lifelong Commitment

We desire to become doers of the Word not just hearers of the Word (James 1:22). We are committed to model this through relational mentoring and the building up of those who are pursuing the biblical mandate of caring for orphans. As Hebrews 11:25 says, “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.”

We desire:

  • To nurture and support those families; who wait for a child through adoption, who have adopted children and those who provide foster care.
  • To develop an awareness (educate the church family) of the needs and unique challenges of orphans, foster care families and adoptive families.
  • To encourage fellow believers to: view orphan care as a Biblical mandate, pursue adoption, provide foster care, help orphans or to support adoptive and foster care families.

Outreach Is Our Joyful Mission

We desire the sharing of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to be our passionate mission, to joyfully join God’s plan to specifically reach orphans through adoption with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. (Matthew 28:19-20; Acts 1:8) We want to joyfully reach out to families who are meeting the needs of orphans and raising them in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. God is greatly glorified when His people show Christ-like mercy to those in need accompanied with the message of the Gospel communicating the nature and love of God, whether they be widows, orphans, poor, sick, imprisoned or hurting (James 1:27, 2:14-17, Matthew 25:34-40, Hosea 14:3).

Fellowship Is Our Collective Responsibility

We desire to provide fellowship opportunities for believers in our church body who are providing for the needs of orphans, which often have many unique and difficult challenges. We desire to provide fellowship that: addresses these specific needs, conveys love, supports one another in prayer, encourages one another with the Word of God, is honoring, is patient, grieves with each other and rejoices with each other in times of joy. We desire to promote fellowship that is cultivated as we live the truth of God’s Word and builds up Christ’s church. (1 Thessalonians 5:11, Romans 12:15, 2 Corinthians 13:14, 1 Corinthians 1:9, Ephesians 4:15 –16)

Prayer Is Our Constant Resource

We desire God’s guidance, power and wisdom to carry out every aspect of this ministry. (James 1:5, 1 Thessalonians 5:17, Romans 8:26, Matthew 7:7-12) Scripture encourages us to “pray on all occasions with all kinds of prayer and requests” (Ephesians 6:18) and to be “strong in the Lord and in His mighty power.” (Ephesians 6:10) Individual and corporate prayer will be the vital component of this ministry.
